Different types of fuels (LNG, LPG, Methanol, Ethanol, different types of bio fuels etc.) have been introduced in recent years – and more will come. The physical characteristics of these fuel types, pro et con for using them, will be presented at this meeting by relevant experts from universities and the industry.

17:00 – 17:30 Introduction to fuel types and engine technology by professor Jesper Schramm, MEK DTU

Engine technology has developed rapidly during the last couple of decades. This is seen particularly in engines for road transportation and has been driven by stronger demands on fuel economy, emissions and a foreseen lack of traditional fuels. The turn has now come to the marine engines and in many respects alternative fuels like alcohols and LNG offers advantages as future fuels.

17:30 – 18:00 Engines for alternative fuels (1. session) by Peter Hagen, Hydraulics & Injection, MAN Diesel & Turbo and Christian S. Mørch, Engine and System Application, MAN Diesel & Turbo

An overview of the different possibilities for using alternative fuels with MAN B&W engines is given. With the fuel properties as basis the different auxiliary systems and engine components are presented. The economic feasibility for a given example is furthermore presented.

18:00 – 18:30 Refreshments

18.30 – 19:00 Engines for alternative fuels (2. session)

19:00 - 19:30 Status of bunker LNG in Europe and update on Danish LNG initiatives by Klaus Rasmussen, Moving Energy

Bunker LNG has in the maritime business been on many ship-owners lips for 10 years but what has actually happened and what is the outlook for the future.
