Erik I. Tvedt

Graduated as M.Sc. in 1986 from the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), specialising in Naval Architecture and Production Management. Further graduated as B.Com. from Copenhagen Business School in 1988 specialising in International Trade.

Member of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects.

The professional carer started at the Burmeister & Wain Shipyard in Copenhagen doing production development, went back to DTU for a production related research project and then to Lyngsø Marine, selling Integrated Ship Control Systems. Joined IBM Denmark in 1989 as an Industry Engineer focusing on production systems for shipyards and later the pharmaceutical industry.

From 1994 Ship Surveyor with the Danish Maritime Authority (DMA). Initial four years in the Marine Accident Investigation Division, then one and a half year in the Business Economics Section and the on to the Centre for Ships, doing plan approval and survey and being responsible for the Danish Class Agreement and relations to the recognised organisations.

Joined Lloyd’s Register EMEA in Copenhagen in 2004 as Senior Surveyor in Charge initially for the combined Hull and Statutory Plan Approval department later, as staff increased, for the Statutory Design Support department.

Returned to the DMA in the spring of 2007 and joined the Centre for Maritime Regulation, being responsible for the RO Directive and regulations relating thereto; for Dangerous Goods regulations (IMO DSC Sub-Committee) and regulation relating to accommodation spaces and measurement of ships.

Was in the summer of 2008 promoted to Head of Division in the DMA Centre for Ships with primary responsibilities being relations to the recognised organisations (Classification Societies), ISM and ISPS, the DMA crisis management planning and the ISO 9001 certified Quality Management System of the Centre.
