Case studies on electrification

  • IDA 31 Kalvebod Brygge København, 1560 Denmark (map)

During this meeting we will look into shore power and battery projects from local and nearby waters. With focus on implementation and operation, we will investigate which solutions have been selected and the experiences gained.

Program

17:00 START

  • Welcome by organizers

  • Shore power installations. Speaker: Jens Peter Baltsersen, DFDS A/S. The presentation will cover the background for DFDS deciding to go into shore power installations and a bit about our general policy on this topic. Further an overview will be provided on the regulatory framework and the derived “standard” chosen for our vessels, based on the available regulations, supplemented by a more detailed description of an actual installation (On the Jinling-series), and learnings for the first installations completed within DFDS. Finally, some words on the expected development for shore power in general

  • "Development of containerized battery packs. Speaker: Rasmus Madsen, SH Group. A presentation of key challenges in designing battery containers, and how they were overcome in effective solutions.

18:00 - 18:30 BREAK

  • Converting ferries from diesel to electrical operation. Speaker: John Wind, Danfoss Editron. Based on an example: Technical aspects, selection of solution, investment, savings.

  • Developing the Copenhagen Harbor Ferries. Speaker: Bastiaan Vink, DAMEN. The full electric Harbour Busses in Copenhagen operated by Arriva Danmark A/S are now in operation for 2 years. The initial program consisted of five ferries including two fast charging systems and was later extended with an additional two vessels and a third charging station. The network of electrical harbour busses has been the first of its kind world-wide and provides a great showcase for any other city around the world. The project itself required significant innovation with regards to the electrical propulsion and charging systems, which at that time had not been seen for smaller ferries. The presentation given will give insights on the technological developments and the challenges seen from a design and operational perspective
